Presentation of the Foundation in the Italian Senate
On 17th May 2022 the Tafida Raqeeb Foundation was presented to the Italian public during a press conference which was held in the Italian Senate in Rome. Senator Simone Pillon, Vice President of the Committee for Childhood and Youth, welcomed the founders, co – founders and supporters of the Foundation and introduced the presentation.
There was present Mr Claudio Lotito, President of Lazio football team, Senator Toni Iwobi, Ms Lorella Fontana, Councillor in the city of Genoa, Dr Paolo Petralia, director of ASL 4 Liguria Italy and many other dignitaries. Tafida was presented with a bravery award from the Italian Senate and Ms Begum had private attendance with the President of the Senate, Ms Elisabetta Casellati who had given Ms Begum a special gift representing the Senate and called her “an Ambassador for life”.
All speeches have underlined the main purpose of the Foundation: the urgency to come together in order to bring a real change in our contemporary society and give every child a chance at life. Children represent the future and it is essential to be their voice and use any means available to spread the ethical values that should be at the basis of our society. As Senator Pillon mentioned, Italy has showed the world its welcoming attitude towards Tafida, especially the doctors of the Paediatric Hospital “Gaslini” in Genoa, who were immediately available to bring Tafida in Italy and carry on with the therapies, on the contrary of UK doctors who wanted to withdraw care. Dr Petralia highlighted, there isn’t always a chance of recovery, but there is always a way to take care of somebody in that situation.
The meeting has been a huge opportunity to underline once again the aims of the Foundation and the project to set up a Neuro Rehabilitation Centre in the UK for children suffering from brain injury.
